Since my sister works in the bar industry, she always has the newest and most random booze at her house from reps sending her samples. I usually could care less about the plethora of options she has on her counter at all times, but over the holidays she received a Bailey’s Vanilla Cinnamon bottle that I just couldn’t pass up. I put it in my coffee, and drank it on the rocks. It was so insanely decadent.
While whipping up some hot chocolates for some friends this holiday season, I decided to treat myself to a little spiked hot chocolate. The vanilla cinnamon Bailey’s flavor was perfection and really hit the spot. It was the perfect cozy, feel warm, kind of drink. Here’s how I did it.
Bailey’s Hot Chocolate Recipe
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 oz Baileys Vanilla Cinnamon (if you can’t find this flavor, the original is just as good)
- 1.5 cups of milk – almond, soy, whatever floats your boat
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp brown sugar – add more if you like it more sweet marshmallows
- You can also add in other syrups like my cinnamon simple syrup or mint!
METHOD
Step One
Heat your milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it steams. Be careful here, you don’t want this to come to boil. Watch it carefully!
Step Two
Add your cocoa powder and brown sugar to the milk. Whisk until it’s combined.
Step Three
Remove your hot chocolate from the heat. now you can add your Bailey’s and whatever other liquor you’d like. You can also leave this part out and you’ll have a fantastic hot chocolate as is. Top with marshmallows or freshly made whipped cream (okay Redd Whip in the can works 100% too).
How To Serve Spiked Hot Chocolate To A Crowd
One of my favorite ways to serve this up for a crowd for the holidays is to make a DIY hot cocoa bar. You can make the hot chocolate ahead of time and keep it on a warmer so it stays hot for everyone to enjoy. Then provide a variety of options to spike the hot chocolate with.
Try a few different things like different Bailey’s flavors, maybe a seasonal vodka with cinnamon or cocoa. Then, have a few fun toppings to choose from. Fresh whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, chocolate shavings and sprinkles. And don’t forget lots of marshmallows.
This is such an easy way to make your dessert bar for the holidays feel a little more special. PS check out my other spiked hot chocolate recipe here.
