Fun fact, most of my childhood was spent in Montreal Quebec. Yup! You read that right. I learned to figure skate for the first time in our backyard after the snow melted and then froze back over within 24 hours. It snowed every Halloween during trick or treating, and I used to be pretty fluent in French. So snow days for me were common, but they meant you still went to school, piano practice and ice skating lessons no matter what. There was never a “snow day” it was just “every day it snows and you bear through it”.
But two weeks ago Atlanta saw something it hadn’t seen in what I can attest, at least 14 years. Damn I’ve been living here a long time…. Cathy and I had planned to get brunch this particular day and to get lots of TBS work done together. I woke up that morning to snow storm warnings on the TV. I thought, as always, yeah right. People were freaking out about snow being on the grass and staying there.
For someone like me who remembers her birthday vividly being during blizzards, this was a joke to me. Every winter when this happens, it’s still a joke and I will never understand. With snow storm warnings on every channel, we decided to move brunch a little closer to home in case Snowpocalypse happened again in Atlanta. I felt comfortable walking home from Buttermilk (a favorite brunch spot by the way) in case shit hit the fan again in this city.
While enjoying brunch and knocking out lots of work, we looked up to an absolute flurry of gorgeous, massive snowflakes. I couldn’t believe it. It took us going outside after our meal to head home to really see how impressive it was. I’m so glad I brought my camera this day. I had to shoot these beautiful flowers (PS get $20 off your first Bouqs order with code XOJESSICA) and brought it with me. I rarely ever have my camera on me so I was so thankful we got real snow day outfit photos. Something that I never thought would happen in Atlanta.
Once we made it home, after driving 45 minutes to go 3 miles basically, it was snow day activities all day. I curled up on my couch in my favorite sweatpants with Pork. I made myself a medicine ball drink because I’m addicted, and binged as much Netflix as possible. Snow days are lazy days so I did just that. A few other fun snow day ideas to keep yourself busy are a fun puzzle, adult coloring books and taking a nap. The naps are probably my favorite.
