People don’t usually believe me when I tell them that I love tequila and that we are best of friends. You see, I’ve never had one of those terrible god awful hangovers from it, and I don’t get mean on tequila. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. I’m SUPER nice and fun when I’m drunk on it.
I’m also a big fan of Cazadores tequila. It’s an affordable liquor and pretty good quality tequila too. You can find this bottle stocked in my freezer at all times in case I want to all of a sudden party. So that doesn’t happen very often, but it’s always good to have tequila on hand in my opinion.
I think that’s the kicker too. Many of us were getting drunk on terrible tequila back in the day. The difference between cheap tequila and good tequila is HUGE. And makes such a difference in the flavor and hangover.
One of my favorite things to make is a margarita. Easy, delicious, refreshing. A classic cocktail recipe to know. But to go the extra mile, and a great cocktail of choice for Cinco de Mayo, try adding in fresh strawberries for a strawberry margarita.
My Simple Strawberry Margarita Recipe
In honor of Cinco De Mayo, I’m sharing my second favorite way to enjoy tequila, in a margarita. My preferred variation is on the rocks with a squeeze of lime (you’re cringing I know, but it’s what I love). The simple flavors of sweet strawberries, fresh lime and the bite of tequila are the perfect way to celebrate this festive holiday.
If you like a sweeter margarita, add in a little simple syrup, but personally, the strawberries and Cointreau do just enough for me. But this strawberry margarita recipe is so easy and delicious, it’ll become your new go-to cocktail!
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz of tequila
- 1 oz of fresh lime juice
- 2-3 strawberries quartered or sliced
- 1/2 oz simple syrup or agave (optional)
- 1/2 oz of Cointreau, triple sec, or any orange flavored liquor
METHOD
The only tools you need to make this is a shaker and a muddler. If you don’t have a muddler, just dice up your strawberries super small and shake very hard. You can also use the back of a spoon to press out some of the strawberries too if you want.
You don’t even need a strainer for this. I personally really love the chunks of strawberries that you get in this drink.
Step One
Rim your glass with lime and salt if you like. You can even do a sugar rim if you like, but I always prefer a salt rim or even a spicy salt rim. Then, add strawberries, lime juice and simple syrup to a shaker. Muddle with a muddler to break up the strawberries as best you can.
Step Two
Add your tequila, orange liquor and ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds at least until it’s super cold.
Step Three
Pour over ice in a rocks glass and garnish with a strawberry or lime. And enjoy!
Strawberry Margarita Rim Ideas
I left my strawberry margaritas today as is when it comes to the rim. But, you can do a bunch of different things here depending on what you prefer.
You can go classic and rim your margarita glass with lime juice and rim the glass in salt. The chunkier the better. Or you can try a bit of a sweet rim with sugar.
Another great option is to do a Tajin and salt rim. I love fruit with Tajin so this is a great idea to add a little salty spicy bite to it. While this is usually my preference for a watermelon margarita, you can definitely do it here with a strawberry margarita.
