Raise your hand if you’re guilty of running around on the 4th of July in denim cut-offs, a white or red tank and chucks. Sure it’s cute. But I’m in my 30s, it’s time to elevate and look a little more put together, don’t you think?
This button-front striped dress is exactly what I think of when I want an elevated 4th of July outfit. It’s not all in-your-face American flag with stars and stripes. It’s nice enough to look stylish and also feel good in. No need to be too kitschy even on the 4th of July.
Elevated 4th Of July Outfit Ideas
The best way to effortlessly elevate your 4th of July-inspired outfit is to choose either red or blue, and go with one of your favorite silhouettes or trends. You can also go all white, and just add a pop of blue or red in an accessory too.
But when it comes to silhouettes, for me, that’s button-up dresses. For you, it might be a great tee or button-down. Or maybe you love a romper! Fourth Of July Dresses
One of my favorite things to wear is a simple dress with a denim jacket. Just choose a white summer dress and denim jacket for the easiest look for the 4th of July. The denim jacket instantly adds that blue hue to your look as my FAVORITE wardrobe essentials.
Or, just choose a dress in the color blue! I love this $30 t-shirt dress from Everlane, such a great piece and so comfortable. T-Shirt dresses are comfortable and effortless and usually made out of 100% cotton making them an essential option for 4th of July festivities.
You could also go with a red floral summer dress or red and white stripe. There are no rules here other than opting for something in red, white or blue. You don’t have to pick all three in one outfit. By choosing just one, you’ll feel a bit more elevated than those wearing a flag t-shirt they grabbed at Old Navy.
Fourth Of July Outfits With Shorts
I love a good pair of high waisted denim shorts, so these are usually my go-to. These can be pretty casual or you can easily dress it up. Adding a blue and white striped tee, or a white linen blazer is a great way to complete this simple, yet elevated outfit.
I also love a simple red tank paired with a denim jacket and white linen shorts. Easily accomplish your red, white and blue this way!
To make this feel less like I’m in my 20s and more like a grown-up, I skip the tank and short cut-offs and go for something a bit more elevated. Try linen high trouser style shorts, or high waisted denim shorts that are a bit more relaxed and not totally revealing cut offs. And if shorts aren’t your thing, just try pants! White pants like linen trousers are a great options for the 4th of July.
For a top to pair with these items, try a nice white linen blouse with those denim shorts for a truly classic and polished look. With linen shorts, try pairing with another linen top for a matching set. Or a cotton tee, either of these options will also help you stay cool in the heat in July.
And to jump on the latest Gen Z trends, try a crop top with your high waisted shorts. Just a sliver of skin showing is a very chic way to style this popular trend. And yes, you can 100% wear a crop top in your 30s and even 40s.
Feminine Skirts
If you’re more of a skirt person, you could opt for a denim skirt and the same rules apply. Add a white or red top, or even a navy one to stay in the Independence Day color scheme. Or, choose a colorful skirt like this red midi floral. Just add a white tee and you’re good to go. This way you can keep everything else nice and simple.
4th Of July Elevated Accessories
And with all of these outfits, don’t forget to accessorize. Finishing your look will help to elevate it and make it more interesting. If you’re wearing an all white dress, try a red bandana in your hair. Another favorite style trick is to add a woven belt.
Or if you’re wearing lots of florals and stripes, add a simple woven belt and bag to pull the look together. You can leave the kitschy 4th of July flag earrings at home, those are for the kids, not the elevated outfits we want to pull together.
