A couple of years ago I leaned in hard with the Dr Martens. I was stoked to get a pair finally. You can read all about that here. But now that it’s spring and summer are here, it’s all about the sandals. And yes, Dr Martens has sandals and they are so good.
I thought they’d look too chunky on me, or make me feel silly. But nope, they sure don’t. I’m loving them and now have not one, but two pairs. Both are so similar, yet SUPER different at the same time. Isn’t that always the excuse when shopping?
Dr Martens Clarissa Sandals Review
The first pair I added to my closet is the Dr Martens Clarissa II leather platform sandals. They are super chunky and heavy. This doesn’t bother me at all, but I’m sure if I spent all day long in them walking, the heaviness would maybe get to me. But I have yet to attempt that.
These Dr. Martens platform sandals are super soft and comfortable. They run a tad big but I went with my usual size 8 in Dr Martens.
The ankle strap is definitely thick and more chunky than their other sandals. This makes them great for pairing with dresses and skirts. And if you’re wearing pants with them, you’ll want to choose your more cropped bottoms.
These utility pants I have from Madewell are perfect as they’re a tad cropped and show a lot of ankle allowing the sandals to do their thing.
One thing I just love about these sandals is the juxtaposition they add to a sweet look. Take this peasant-style dress with puff sleeves. The chunky Dr Marten Clarissa sandal is the wrong shoe you’d think to pair with it. But in reality, it works!

Clarissa Sandals vs Blaire Sandals
The Clarissa and the Blaire sandals are very similar from Dr Marten’s. So let’s dive into which ones are best! I’ll be reviewing the Blaire sandals as well even though today’s post features the Clarissa Sandals.
The Blaire sandals are much lighter, super comfy, and run insanely big compared to the Clarissa. If you don’t want a chunky and heavy sandal, the Blaire is the better option here.
I think the Clarissa sandals though are more classic Dr Martens looking and I adore them. I love the heavier look of them and the thicker straps. These run a bit big, but I would just take your usual whole size and size down if in-between.
If choosing the Blaire sandal, be sure to size down a full size. These are going to be more comfortable for lots of walking since they are much lighter in weight.

Styling Dr Martens Sandals With Utility Pants
The second I got these sandals in I tried styling them a few ways. I have a couple of outfits coming to An Indigo Day, but this first look is probably a favorite. Just simply styling them with easy effortless utility pants and a great tank is all you need.
This black ribbed tank is hands down the best tank in my closet. It’s from Banana Republic and I have it in a few colors. I already have replaced the white one because I wore it that much last year.
To make this look feel a little more stylish and feminine as it can read a little edgy, I added my leather Isabel Marant Lecce belt which is one of my favorite accessories. It’s the easiest addition to any outfit to make it more interesting. This belt also just makes things feel more elevated and fashion forward than a classic belt.
