These are my first ever wide-legged cropped pants and I have to say, I’m in love. I’ve been rocking skinny jeans or wide leg 70’s inspired jeans for years now and have yet to really venture away from them. But there’s something fun about switching it all up with these wide leg cropped jeans.
At 5’5″, I wasn’t 100% sure if I can pull these off. But between the high-waisted fit and a great pair of heels, these actually are quite flattering and such a nice departure from my usual jeans.
When trying a new trend, it can be a little overwhelming. That’s why I recommend picking up an affordable pair first to see what looks good on you. In today’s post, I’m rounding up some favorites that are fairly affordable and will help get you trying a new trend to see if it’s something you like.
Then, you can invest in more if you like. This is one of my favorite ways to try out trends before spending a lot of money.
How To Style Wide Leg Cropped Pants
When thinking about how to wear wide leg cropped pants, you want to practice a lot of the same tips that I recommend with your classic wide leg pants. The cropped effect is really just a way to show off more ankle and a fun shoe. It’s the one thing a wide leg pant doesn’t allow you to do since it hides your shoes!
A few of those go-to tips are to keep balance in check and proportions. This will be helpful when coming up with styling ideas for this fun trend. Here’s what I mean.
Proportionate Bottoms
This applies to not only the pants themselves but also the top you pair with them. When it comes to your bottoms, I recommend picking a pair that’s high-waisted to create as long a line as possible with your body. If you did a low waist with the cropped leg, you’ll end up looking short and sloppy.
Also, you want the hem to hit you in a place that’s most flattering for your body shape. If you find a pair you love, make a mental note of where they hit.
You can always easily hem your jeans for free (here’s my easy tutorial on how to hem your jeans at home) to make sure they hit perfectly. I’ve done this on several pairs of mine. Not every pair will hit you perfectly, but a simple hem at a seamstress or DIY will make them look great on you. I would stay away from ones that hit mid calf.

Choose The Right Shirt or Blouse
And when it comes to the right tops to wear, just like any wider leg silhouette, you want to balance it out with a more fitted top. Tuck it in if it’s blousy. Or add a fitted tee or bodysuit so it’s clean and flush against your body. Having something tucked in will also provide a slimming effect, who doesn’t love that?
Add A Third Piece The Right Way
I love adding a third piece to my looks to fully complete the look. It feels put together and more stylish. This can be a great denim jacket or moto jacket. When it comes to adding a jacket or cardigan to wide leg crop pants, you want to make sure it hits you at your hip or higher.
A long cardigan paired with a wide leg crop will feel super messy. But a sleek moto jacket that hits at the hip or waist will look more put together and slimming. This is why I usually opt for my go to classic denim jacket or suede moto jacket.
Pick A Neutral Shoe If You’re Short
If you’re petite or have short legs, I highly recommend choosing a nude high heel or block heel. It’ll help to elongate your legs and make you appear taller. If you’re tall, you can usually get away with just about any shoe.
But now’s the time to wear some fun ones since these pants hit above the ankle and allow you to show off some of those fun pairs you may have! Below are some of my favorite shoes to pair with a wide cropped pants and jeans.

Wide Leg Cropped Jeans For Fall And Wiinter
I find these jeans to be great for transitioning from season to season. They allow you to still show a little leg, but you can add a light sweater to make it ideal for fall. A tucked-in cashmere sweater and statement shoe is the perfect combination.
PS this is a pair I ended up cutting the hem on. I removed about 2 inches to show a little more ankle to make them more flattering!

I love wide leg cropped jeans for spring and summer. They’re a great way to switch up your everyday shorts. Again, tucked in and fitted shirt for the right proportions. And another great tip, especially if you’re petite, is to choose a nude high heel to elongate those legs!
