A hot topic of conversation when I meet new people (or go on dates) is are you the type who shows up extra early to the airport or do you cut it pretty close? Everyone has their routine, right? I’ll never forget at Coachella last year we were getting ready to head to the airport and decided to stop for lunch on Abbot Kinney. It’s such an easy stop to make and there are tons of great restaurants and shops. Plus, you can pop over to the beach too to get your sunshine fix.
We were starting to cut it close so some of us paid the tab, while others ran to the bathroom and someone else got the car. While waiting for the car, we – myself, Kristin who I travel a ton with, and our friend Josh – saw Salt + Straw. A very popular ice cream spot, we decided to head in to grab a scoop. Well, around the corner comes our friend Daniel in our ultra-packed SUV and he was NOT having it with us that we were about to be late to the airport.
Kristin and I are pretty lax on getting to the airport with just enough time. She’s an elite traveler, and we both have TSA pre-check making it fairly smooth to get through any airport. If anything, I’m the one who wants to get there a little earlier than she. But when there’s ice cream to be eaten, and you want to soak in as much California goodness as possible, we didn’t really care too much about the whole 2 hour window. Daniel, on the other hand, was pretty annoyed with us all. In his own right, he likes to have ample time. I get it. But us, we like ice cream and living life on the edge a bit more (hey Kristin and I have missed a few flights together and I’ve personally missed like three as of late). It just makes life more interesting if you ask me.
Running a few minutes late to the airport sometimes means I’m running from security to my gate!
However, running a few minutes late to the airport sometimes means I’m running from security to my gate. This is one of the many reasons I wear this outfit almost every single time I travel. It’s comfortable, easy to run in (trust me I’ve had to do it before) and is still stylish. When I fly I usually am in this get up also because it’s nearly all cotton.
My jeans? Mostly cotton with a touch of stretch to keep them looking great even after several hours of flying. A comfy cotton tee (I live in these and these) which is breathable, lightweight and goes with everything. And lastly, my go to utility jacket from Madewell that’s 100% cotton. It’s such a great lightweight piece to wear as a light layer. Airplanes always get a little cold and this jacket is a much more elevated layer than an oversized hoodie. It also has some great pockets so I can put my phone in one, my license and headphones in another and feels organized. And the last perk of this outfit? It allows me to easily go from airplane to lunch with friends once I land without any additional effort. A swipe of lipstick and I’m good to go.
Since I’m heading out of town in a few weeks with some friends to Lake Como and Mykonos, I will wear a very similar variation of this outfit. I’ll just probably swap out the jeans for some comfy leggings or sweats for the overnight flight. These are great and if you ask me, are perfect for even everyday outfits for joggers. For our small regional flight from Milan to Greece, I’ll be in this exact same outfit for sure. It’s my go to. I may also have this jacket in another color – it’s just that good. Cotton is always a great fabric to fly in since it’s soft, breathable and comfortable.
