My closet favorites seem to rotate with the season. In the summer, I love a dress or a pair of shorts. But come fall, I reach for mini skirts the most. I find fall dresses a struggle to shop for. And while I love all things denim, there’s always this ideal weather where you can wear mini skirts and not be too cold. To me, that is one of my favorite seasons to dress for.
Summer miniskirts are not something I gravitate towards. And I have no good explanation why. But for fall, they’re one of my most loved categories in my closet. They’re easy to style, flirty and fun, and are the perfect piece for those 60 degree weather days. These are some of my favorite mini skirts to shop this season. Plus, a latest look at how I’m wearing them.

The Best Types Of Mini Skirts For Fall
There are so many great styles of mini skirts to shop for this time of year. From classic plaid prints, wool mini skirts, and denim ones, there’s no shortage of options. I always gravitate towards a mini skirt because I find them really easy to style. Add a long blazer with a tee for a simple yet elevated combination. For a cozier look, try a sweater with knee high boots. And when you want to add a tight, I’m always recommending a slightly sheer black or brown tight for an updated look.

Plaid Mini Skirts
I love a plaid print for fall and doing them in a mini skirt feels very classic schoolgirl uniform vibes. You can lean into the styling here and pair them with collegiate sweaters or button downs. Or dress them up a bit with pretty blouses and knee high boots. I also love a plaid mini skirt styled with something more edgy like a moto jacket or denim trench.

Pleated Mini Skirts
A pleated mini takes the schoolgirl outfit to the next level. I think many of us who attended private schools wore a pleated mini of some sort. I love the flirty look of a pleated skirt, though, and think they’re the perfect piece to add to your fall wardrobe. A few styling ideas to think about are wearing something more oversized over top and letting the pleats peek out underneath. You can do this with an oversized sweater, or a button down overtop paired with a sweater or sweatshirt layered over it.
Go more polished with sleek knee-high boots and a turtleneck with a blazer. This is a classic combination that’s great for the office or business casual, pending the length of the skirt of course.

Denim Mini Skirts
For transitional dressing, denim mini skirts are a great option. Take them from summer to fall by adding a cozy sweater or sweatshirt. Don’t forget to layer on a blazer or trench coat to complete the look. I love a denim mini skirt styled with sneakers for a casual look, but loafers, Mary Janes and knee high boots are all great shoe pairings too.

Floral Mini Skirts
A floral mini skirt is a staple this time of year. It is also the perfect print to transition from summer to fall. Try a floral satin mini skirt, or a jacquard style floral print for a little texture for those truly cool days. I like to balance the sweetness of the florals with denim, or a graphic tee.

Satin And Lace Trim Mini Skirts
Another transitional piece to bring over from summer, or spring, are your satin mini skirts. Similar to a satin midi slip skirt, these slip style skirts are so fun and flirty. They’re easy to style too. I like adding a graphic tee and a third piece like a jacket. Or try a cozy sweater and knee high boots. These can also easily be dressed up for a night out too.
The lace trim mini skirt trend is also taking over this category. It’s a nice little detail that makes a satin mini skirt feel more finished and adds interest to the piece. I like doing an oversized sweater, or a tee with a longer third piece over top.

Suede And Leather Mini Skirts
Once the temperatures drop, I start reaching for the suede and leather mini skirts. They are so fun to style and have a bit of edge and sexiness to them. While it’s always a good idea to have a classic little black leather mini skirt on hand, try a fun color like burgundy or shades of green.

Tweed Mini Skirts or Wool Mini Skirts
When I thnk of fall mini skirts, I instantly think of tweed and wool fabrics. Whether they’re in plaids or houndstooth, or solid colors, wool minis are quintessential pieces to have for your wall and winter wardrobe. I adore a tweed mini with a pair of slightly sheer tights too. It’s the ideal combination.

Black Mini Skirts
I find a black mini skirt to be really versatile. I love to style them at the end of summer with a loafer and tee. But once it gets cooler, add in those layers and even tights. You can find black tweed mini skirts, to black pleated ones. There are always so many options when it comes to a black mini skirt. They are truly a staple for fall and as you head into winter, they are super easy to style for both seasons.

Sequined Mini Skirts
While I wouldn’t necessarily reach for a sequined mini in the early fall days, maybe once we’re heading into winter and holiday, it’s the perfect party piece. A great sequined mini skirt doesn’t need much. A great sweater or button down, and a simple heel. That’s it!

Mini skirts are hands down one of my favorite categories in my closet, especially for fall and those in-between weather days. They’re the perfect flirty piece to style. With so many options, ways to style them and outfit ideas, I hope this post helps to get you wearing your new favorite mini skirt.
