It’s no secret I am on a brown kick these days. I am loving all the rich chocolate browns. And I’ve been reaching for them more so than black these days.
While putting together an outfit to head to dinner with friends on one of those crisp fall days (and this works for those warmer winter days), I had to put these pieces together.
The Black And Brown Outfit I’m Loving
I have always loved mixing black and brown together. I am the first to tell you that yes, you can mix them! Here’s how to wear black and brown together along with some more outfit ideas in this color combination.
And since leather shorts for fall and winter are one of my favorite things to reach for, it was a no brainer to mix and match it with all my favorite pieces at the moment.
I’m all about the leather shorts life. These are a find from Paris, but sharing similar pieces to shop below. Wear them with flat boots, tall boots, combat boots, or loafers. And you can definitely add tights if you need it for cooler weather.
Believe it or not, I tossed my classic black wool peacoat. I wasn’t wearing it much and I have just noticed that brown is my thing. And this oversized brown wool coat was a perfect topper for this look.
I’ve been on a hunt for staple pieces to add to my closet in brown. I’m someone who loves basic cotton tees, fitted and boxy, so I have been adding a few to my closet to help create more outfits in my favorite color. Honestly, you can go brown or black here. I kind of like the black against hte coat. But once the coat is off, you may feel like it’s not enough brown to complete the outfit. Either option works though, it’s just a preference.

There are so many opportunities to wear leather shorts. It’s all about how you style them. Whether you want to dress leather shorts up in heels, knee high boots and beautiful tops. Or dress them down a bit in combat boots with chunky knit sweaters or an oversized blazer.
If you’re dressing them up, wear it out to a nice dinner or party. And you can wear a dressed down version in your day to day life grabbing lunch with friends or going shopping and exploring. And always consider adding tights for fall and winter!
