After doing the things I’ll never spend my money on, I thought it would be fun to share the things I will always splurge on. These are things I just will never think twice about. I’m definitely someone who believes in quality things, but also not spending an obscene amount i.e. designer stuff. But I do like to splurge on certain things, and here are a few things that I will always spend my money on, no questions asked.
Things I’ll Always Spend Money On
Travel
While I won’t splurge on the fanciest hotel, or a first-class ticket, travel itself is a spending priority for me. It brings me so much joy, it creates the best memories, and I think it’s one of the best ways to spend your money. I’d choose this any day over a materialistic item. And since it can get expensive, I do enjoy finding a good deal when I can like finding cheap flights, or enlisting a friend who will join me on a trip to split the hotel costs.
Shoes
I just really have not been thrilled with cheap shoes. It’s definitely hit or miss. These were a HIT. I have had a handful of Target shoes that I have LOVED too. But overall, I just find that they are uncomfortable for the most part or just look very cheap. And I’m not out here spending hundreds on each pair of shoes. I’m at the $80-$200 range for shoes that I think are worth it. At that price point, I won’t think twice.
The Good Eggs
I’ll never forget going to an egg influencer event. Yes, you read that right. And they talked to us about the hens, and how they get the eggs, and then, we ate all the eggs. And my god, what a difference in taste! As someone who eats a couple of eggs over easy every day, I decided to make the switch to nicer happier eggs.
Okay, in the time of inflation, I have downgraded my eggs and am now in the middle of the road price range. I go for Trader Joe’s brown eggs which are still somewhat reasonably priced.
Some Kitchen, Cleaning And Home Essentials
There are some kitchen essentials I’ll do store brand, but when it comes to garbage bags, Ziploc bags, toilet paper and tissues, I’m getting the good stuff! No cold is worth suffering through with cheap tissues. Get the ones with the lotion, period! And I am pretty dedicated to my name brand cleaning products as well. But what I won’t buy, are those luxury laundry detergents. Not sure that’s really my thing.
Bonne Maman Jam
I feel like I am single handily keeping this company in business. I go through this amazing French jam like crazy. I’m all for the strawberry preserves. They are so good. And they are outrageously expensive at $6 a jar. In France, under $2. So yes, the next time I visit Paris, I’ll be bringing home jam. Seems the most economical thing for me to do. I like to eat this on my English muffins, with or without goat cheese as well. And swirled into cottage cheese. And yes, I now zip mine up in the food processor for a smooth consistency and it is everything.
Good Bras
Please, I beg of all of you, to have a proper bra fitting. And then invest in good-quality bras. I personally love Chantelle and Wacoal bras. Natori and Skims are also great. But good bras will support your chest, make you look great and also feel wonderful. Here are the essential bras every woman should own.
Workout Clothing
I will preface this with, I believe your leggings and bras should be high quality. I’ll let the tanks and tees and maybe even the dresses and skirts slide. But for me, I have yet to find anything that matches the quality, the fit, longevity and comfort of lululemon. And I know, it’s expensive as hell. But that shit lasts FOREVER. I am still wearing Align leggings that I bought over 10 years ago. I wear them each week and they still look great. Their fabric is simply magic.
I have tried MANY workout brands. And all have fallen short in some capacity. If you just want something affordable to work out in and you’re not ready to invest, the Colorful Koala legging from Amazon is pretty good. Not amazing, but good, especially for the $20 price tag. And I don’t hate some of Old Navy’s stuff. I do not like their bras or leggings. But have enjoyed their tanks and tees, and even workout skirts.
And when it comes to bras and keeping your chest supported, I really do think it’s important to invest in quality support here. We don’t want your girls bouncing around which can strain the skin and also make you sore. You want to be confined and supported so you can move freely and confidently. I also enjoy Girlfriend Collective bras, but not sure they are the full support a larger chest may need. But for me, these are my favorite and I find myself reaching for them over my lululemon sports bras.
Skincare
While I don’t think you should spend $100 on a cream, I think some products are 100% worth it. You can go with the drugstore brands for your cleansers and maybe moisturizers and SPF. But when it comes to anti-aging products and serums, I think the good stuff is worth it. There’s usually higher potency and quality of active ingredients and you’ll more likely see a difference. These are also products that you don’t need a lot of so a little goes a long way.
A Good Knife
You need at least two good-quality knives in your kitchen. You don’t need anything else, truly. I am a Global Knives person and won’t ever go back to anything else. You splurge once, and they will truly last you a lifetime.
Certain Furniture
My general rule is if I’m going to spend a lot of time using this piece of furniture, or it’s a piece that’s designed for comfort, it’s worth splurging on. I spent far too many years with furniture I didn’t love because I was just being kind of cheap about it. In my 30’s I finally invested in the pieces I was loving but felt like a big splurge. And I don’t regret it one bit.
For me, it’s about the things I’m mostly sitting on. I want a comfortable and nice couch, I want chairs that look and feel great. And my mattress better be insanely comfortable. But the coffee table? That entry table that just holds my keys? Why bother investing tons of money in those pieces when quality isn’t really that important? They don’t get the wear and tear that other items do.
A friend once said to me “buy nice, or buy twice” and that’s kind of how I feel about furniture. I was constantly buying new things that weren’t expensive and that I didn’t 100% love because I was avoiding spending the big bucks. I have learned in my 30’s, buy the nice furniture.
