With the new landscape of the world thanks to COVID-19, you may be finding yourself now working from home. If you’re able to, gosh, I hope you are. And also practicing social distancing. I love this article about why it’s so important to practice this right now. But with many of the workforce now working remotely, I’ve gotten some questions on how to best work from home and not climb the walls.
I’ve been working from home for nearly 5 years now. Plus, working for myself. Which can be a struggle at times to stay motivated. I usually tell people to set up a designated work space like a desk. But if this isn’t permanent, it may not be necessary. Either way, here are my go to tips from working from the couch, I mean from home!
4 Real Ass Tips To Working From The Couch
Put On Fresh Underwear
No seriously, take a damn shower (at some point) and put on fresh clothes. It just makes you feel better. I 100% put on fresh leggings (I have 4 pairs of these specifically for working from home) an oversized tee and my laziest of sports bras. There’s no need to put on jeans and a real bra. It’s not worth it. Some people feel better doing this, but personally, I like to be more comfortable. But that’s why I like the shower, fresh legging and underwear combo.
Listen To Productive Music or TV
Some people like silence, some like a little TV in the background or Podcast. Whatever floats your boat, find it and find it fast. It’ll help your productivity. For me, I like chill music and this is my Spotify playlist I listen to most when I’m working from my desk. Otherwise, it’s usually Food Network in the background at a low volume.
Take Breaks
Working from home, you can easily fall into a habit of non-stop working. And sometimes that’s actually NOT productive. You can find yourself doing mindless tasks that really aren’t moving the needle or busy work that’s just pointless. By taking breaks you can come back focused and start working on something fresh. Go for a walk, make a cup of coffee and enjoy it on your porch, do a face mask. Seriously, just take a break!
Buy A Lap Desk
If you’re not going to sit at a desk or the kitchen table and truly indulge in the couch life, I highly recommend grabbing one of these under $30 lap desks. They make working from the couch so much more comfortable by providing a larger space to rest your computer on. Plus, a lot of them have USB fans in them so you can keep your computer cool. I also am that person who always uses a mouse, so I like that they’re big enough to put my mouse and mouse pad on them.
