I bought a few pairs of nicer trousers at Aritzia. But I wanted a pair that I could dress up or down. And ones that would work with flats too. I needed options! You know it’s a trend that’s here to stay for a while when you want more of them in your closet.
I spotted these khaki trousers at H&M for under $35 and they’re just perfect to try the Gen Z trend. Great to try out a trend for an affordable price too if you’re unsure about it. You don’t need to add anything else to your closet to try this trend out either.

I love the clean and fresh look of an ecru or beige trouser. You can style this for fall and winter even though they feel a bit “white”. Just pair with winter accessories like a cozy knit sweater and houndstooth blazer. Add a leather sneaker to keep the look more casual and effortless. You can even do a flat boot or loafer here as well and it will still feel casual and cool.
Casual Brown Trouser Outfit For Fall
Brown trousers are a closet staple. A brown trouser can go with so much, and feel so much less stark than black trousers. For a casual look, brown just feels more appropriate and easier to style than classic black. Try pairing your brown trousers with a bold sneaker and coordinating sweater. The perfect casual weekend look in the fall or winter. I love to pair red with brown, it’s the ideal color combination to try, but soft pale blues also work great.
Casual Trouser Outfit Idea – Khaki Trouser Outfit
If you want to go more oversized in your denim jacket, this is how I’d style it. An oversized denim jacket over a looser-fitting tee will feel a bit sloppy. So instead, I swapped it for the crop top that shows a sliver of skin to create even more of a waist. This creates a true waist and makes things feel a little less sloppy with a fitted crop.
Again, chunky dad sneakers for the win. You could also do a sleek leather sneaker like a Veja if you wanted to. While this look is very similar to the date night outfit, by removing the belt and heels, it just instantly dresses this down making it feel more casual.

This super casual look is a go-to and how all the cool kids are now rocking trousers. Just add a cool tee and dad sneakers. To balance out the looser fit of these trousers I opted for a slightly more fitted and cropped denim jacket. This is one of my go-to tricks for how to dress down a suit.
Styling Trousers For Date Night
To dress up trousers for a cool night out with friends, I’d do a crop top and a heel. Add a leather belt to finish off the look. An oversized denim jacket is great here to balance out the tiny fitted top. I’d even add a leather jacket too for fall and for a look that feels a little more elevated.
For jacket options, you can also try a textured lady jacket, or a collarless denim jacket for a more polished look.
How To Style Trousers For The Office – Khaki Trouser Outfit
The most classic way that I think we’re all super comfortable with, is to style trousers for our 9-5. I love these paired with a slightly oversized blazer (just a longer fit and not so short and tight). A fitted ribbed top and a block heel complete the look.
You can also swap your blazer for a short cardigan and do a French tuck. I remember wearing trousers back in my old day job days and I just loved them because they were so comfy!

To dress down my wide-leg trousers in fun colors, I just added all the neutrals. A white square-neck tee, my platform Converse, and a cropped denim jacket to pull it together as a third piece.
