Considering I work from home and have been now for nearly three years, my loungewear doesn’t quite reflect it. You see, I get ready every morning regardless of if I plan on leaving the house or not. I firmly believe that even if you work from your home office, to get up, showered and get dressed. And to make your damn bed too! Now no one’s saying you need to get dressed in a suit, but at least put on some fresh clothing and pull it together!
There are some days when this means to me just jeans and a tee. But usually, it’s loungewear like sweats or leggings and a big oversized tee. Since I share a lot on Instastories, my readers tend to see these awful lounge outfits and it’s kind of embarrassing. This year I’m determined to up my loungewear game so that I can easily go from desk to errands without looking like a total slob. Or at least hop onto Instastories and not be totally embarrassed about my appearance.
I’ve got a few cute things, like this little striped number and also this floral shortie set. They’re super cute and comfy, but they’re more for summer, and they aren’t able to be worn out in public. I’m really looking for easy pieces that I can go walk my dog that doesn’t look like I rolled out of bed or too sexy in a slinky outfit. Here are my tips to curating a put together a collection of loungewear to go from bed, to couch to errands with ease.
TIPS TO CURATING A STYLISH LOUNGEWEAR COLLECTION
Find Great Bottoms Like Leggings or Joggers
Think great leggings and joggers (I do love these and wear them ALL the time) that are appropriate for being worn in public. This means, nothing see through and yes, do the bend over test in the mirror! I’m torn on leggings as pants, but I think a great pair of lounge leggings (not ones meant to be worn similar to tights) are appropriate. I really like my SPANX ones but they’re definitely not designed for sleep. Another great option are these from GapFit. Plus, a long tee and long cardigan make it the perfect casual look.
Invest In Basic Cotton Tees
I’m all about a great cotton tee. I love my Madewell ones, but also Abercombie & Fitch and Alternative Apparel all have really great and affordable options. Whether you’re hot-blooded or not, you can go for tanks, short sleeves or long sleeves. You can also see my favorite cotton white tees here that you can wear out and about too!
Add A Classic Light Layer
Whether you prefer a sweatshirt, cardigan or wrap, having a nice light layer is essential. You can just add it on top of your joggers and tees as a great way to pull it all together. A sweatshirt is definitely more casual, so a cardigan is a nice addition to have on hand too. Once you add this layer, you’re then good to go! You can head out to run an errand and not feel embarrassed like you’re still in your pajamas!
