I have never been one to ever use bodymakeup. I’ve never needed to really cover up any scars or tattoos which is oftentimes a reason for needing this kind of product. But lately we’re seeing makeup brands create body makeup to help smooth skin, even out tones and blurs imperfections.
I never thought about using it until a trip with my #BloggersDoTravel girls and Shelby (the queen of makeup in our group) used Vita Liberata on her legs before we shot some outfits.
We watched her use this tan looking lotion on her legs and watched them turn into perfectly tanned, zero imperfection, legs. All of us just watched in amazement. It was truly mind blowing how easy it looked and how great her legs appeared afterwards. I was sold. But had yet to purchase.
Finally, after realizing my legs looked kind of blah in some of my latest outfit photos with a lack of tan, I decided to give it a try. Shelby recommended it fully and I’m not a die hard fan myself.
Vita Liberata Body Blur Review
Vita Libereata is a new to me beauty brand too. Don’t hate the name either I mean Vita was the name of An Indigo Day for 9 years, and Liberata sounds a lot like Camerata, my last name. So I’m here for it. But the brand was founded by Allyson Hogg who founded a skincare line back in 2003.
She later focused on self tanners in 2007 launching her self tan collection that’s fast drying and a natural fade. I haven’t personally tried the self tanner, only the body blur. But thanks to this product, I’m now very into the brand and would definitely consider trying the self-tan. Would be curious to see how it compares to Isle of Paradise (you can read my review on those tanning drops here).
Shop The Vita Liberata Collection
Vita Liberata has more than just their Body Blur. Shop the full collection of body blurring products, sunless tanner and makeup below.
The Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish is a great product to use when you need to smooth out your skin on your body and blur any imperfections like scarring, everyday blemishes or uneven skin tone.
This product also helps to reflect light for a photo-ready finish. Which is part of the reason why I love it for my blog photos now! The product doesn’t feel drying at all with shea butter that’s ultra-hydrating along with aloe vera.
The body blur lotion stays on for many hours which is great. But don’t be fooled because it is NOT a tan, it’s truly makeup. It will rub off on other things. You do have to RUB to get it onto things, however. Simply having a dress that slinks over your legs won’t cause it to get on your dress. But sitting on a couch will definitely cause it to rub off.
I’d just be cautious as this is definitely designed for photos. So the ideal situation for using this product would be anytime you’re being photographed or attending a major event and you want to make sure your skin looks imperfection-free and with a sun-kissed glow.
Vita Liberata Body Blur Shades
Finding your right shade is not super complicated with Vita Liberata. The website even has some insight to each shade and which works for your skin type. Below are the shades and listed in order from lightest to darkest.
Cafe Creme
The ideal shade for those who are very fair skinned.
Latte Light
This is the shade that I used and I am quite pale right now but still have olive skin which makes me feel like I always have a bit of color. This shade is good if you’re not super fair and have light to medium skin tone.
Latte
For those in the medium skin tone world, this is your shade.
Mocha
And for medium to dark skin tone, the mocha is your shade.
Side By Side
Seeing the side by side of using Vita Liberata body blur instant is so crazy. The difference is incredible from bare skin that hasn’t seen the light of day in months in the middle of the winter. Plus, you can see I have some blemishes on my skin in the before. And on the left in the after, my leg just looks smooth and honestly, more toned! It’s incredible.
How To Use The Vita Liberata Body Blur
Start With Clean Skin
It’s always best to start any self tan or makeup application on cleansed skin. Bonus points for exfoliated skin as well. This way you’re not applying product to a really dry patch which may absorb more than other parts resulting in a splotchy look.
Don’t Use Too Much
You can always apply more if you need to, but I don’t recommend slathering this on thick.
Use A Mitt If You Like
You don’t HAVE to use a mitt, but if you don’t, just be sure to wash your hands VERY well afterward and really get the product off. The body blur product is easy to see on your hands and will require a good scrub. But self-tanner is colorless so you’ll want to ensure you’re being mindful of that.
Vita Liberata also sells a mitt for only $4.50. Might be worth grabbing to ensure your hands don’t look a mess if you’re worried about this.
Apply Like Lotion
Applying the product is really just like applying lotion. The formula is quite thick, so you do have to work it in a bit.
Vita Liberata Before And After
Is It Worth The Hype
My personal take on this product is that it is AMAZING for what it does and for the price. Sure it’s a tad pricy, but it really does work well if you need something to make your legs or arms look picture perfect.
For events, or parties or photos, I think this is really a miracle product. It’s definitely not something you’ll want to wear every single day. But when you need it, it really is incredible. Great coverage, looks amazing, and has no smell.
