Another year of great books. And yes, I always wish I read more and spent less time scrolling. This year, I tried new genres like literary fiction, which I think I now know I can mostly pass on in the future. I really need twists and turns to keep me hooked on books. Here’s a look at what I read this year. Mostly great books, except for one that got a pretty tragic rating.
What I Read In 2025
Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice by Virginia Roberts Giuffre
I don’t know what possessed me to read this other than wanting to support the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. I listened to this book of Virginia’s childhood, experience of being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and her life once she escaped. This was one of the most shocking and horrifying books I’ve ever read.
MY RATING ★★★★★
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
An art dealer and doctor are living their lives in NYC as they get ready to go on vacation. But COVID changes everything. Canceled flights, stranded on opposite ends of the world, figuring out how to get through something so difficult while apart. This book has a psychological element to it and follows what happens when things are no longer within your ability to control.
MY RATING ★★★★★
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
I’m going to be honest, I can’t even remember what this is about. And after reading the book description, I still don’t recall what this was about. Clearly, that’s good reason why I gave it two stars.
MY RATING ★★
Gone Tonight by Sarah Pekkanen
This book kept me wondering what was next with this mother-daughter duo. A mother trying to protect her daughter from her past, but a daughter who is starting to unravel the lies. There were twists and turns and thrill throughout the book.
MY RATING ★★★★
I Found You by Lisa Jewell
I typically enjoy a Lisa Jewell book. A woman finds a confused man on the beach one morning who can’t seem to get his memory back. Slowly, they start to figure things out for a twisty suspenseful book from start to finish.
MY RATING ★★★★
The Art Of Small Talk by Casey Wilson
This was a good listen with some fun tips and tricks to the art of small talk. It’s informative but also fun and interesting at the same time, keeping me tuned in.
MY RATING ★★★★★
Wellness by Nathan Hill
This was not my usual style of book, literary fiction. My friend says it’s her favorite book of all time, so I thought I’d give something new a try. This story follows a couple from the 90s in Chicago who used to live across from one another and end up married. I found the wife’s job so fascinating which is what I think kept me turning pages.
MY RATING ★★★
Oona Out Of Order by Margarita Montimore
Oona wakes up in random years to a life she has to navigate. This book required some imagination and accepting the magic of it all. I really enjoyed this as something different compared to all of my usual thrillers.
MY RATING ★★★★★
The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding
This story was twisty about a homeless woman and a very wealthy woman who cross paths in a strange way. I was curious how this story would unfold and it kept me hooked.
MY RATING ★★★★
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
A woman visits her old summer camp 15 years later after 3 girls go missing in her bunk. Emma goes back to the camp to teach art but strange things keep happening as she hopes for closure from that horrifying summer.
MY RATING ★★★★★
107 Days by Kamala Harris
A look at the 107 days leading up to the 2024 election. Beware, this walk down memory lane of Brat Summer had me crying quite a bit. For the hope of it all, and reliving the moments she reflects on. I enjoyed the look behind the curtain, but was not prepared for how emotional this book made me for what could have been.
MY RATING ★★★★★
Little One by Olivia Muenter
A woman who was once in a cult run by her family is approached by a journalist to uncover the secrets. What she once believed. to be her childhood completely
MY RATING ★★★★
The Social Climber by Amanda Pellegrino
Eliza takes us on a journey leading up to her wedding to a very wealthy and respected family. A look at her college years leads us to the week of her wedding where she has some sort of mastermind plan to reveal something big.
MY RATING ★★★★
