I am so ready for a closet refresh. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been doing a big closet purge. Getting rid of lots of things that I haven’t been wearing and just not loving anymore. To the items I just was holding onto for no good reason at all. It feels good to seriously purge and it has made some space in my closet. While I mostly followed my KonMari method here, I did one thing differently this time.
Typically when you do the Marie Kondo Method on your clothing, the rule is, don’t try it on. It should either spark joy or not. You shouldn’t need to put it on to convince yourself. While this rule is helpful in making swift decisions, it left me with items I thought sparked joy, but it had been so long since I had tried them on that I realized, I didn’t like them anymore! I was holding on to quite a bit of “I love this, but it no longer fits right” and that helped to make a bigger impact in my purge. While it was annoying to try on a bunch of things, I made it a point to not try to convince myself it worked, and instead just decided when it was on, do I love it or not. And to be honest, they were almost all a no.
What I’m Buying For Spring
I’m slowly adding in some new fun pieces for spring and summer. And it has me so excited for a new season. A few things I’m excited about this season are new tops and trying out non-denim bottoms. I’m set on denim. Like, I don’t need new denim for the rest of my life probably. And instead, I’m opting to try new things like the popular trouser trend. I’ve found a few from Aritizia and BB Dakota that I’m trying. I think this will be a fun way to change up all the denim in my closet.
The first new thing I bought recently was today’s striped oversized top from Topshop. Perfect with skinny jeans and chucks for now. Or white jeans and sandals for summer weather. I also bought this AYR top in the mac n cheese color and it also looks amazing with denim. It’s got such a great fit to it and the fabric is really beautiful. This is a new to me brand and I’m really impressed with this item.
And I’m such a fan of a utility jacket and for some reason own like five and they’re ALL the same color. One has a star print, one is camo, but I have five, FIVE, olive green utility jackets. Time for a change. I just added this Free Assembly white one from Walmart (yes you read that right) and it is so good. Perfect to go with all my bottoms from denim to sweats to even the new trousers I’m excited to try.
Let’s Talk Spring Shoes
For shoes, I’m having some thoughts, folks. I was chatting with my blog friend Camille about shoes and how for one, everything seems to just be the same but ever so slightly different every year. I feel like I have the same shoes from 5 years ago and they’re still perfectly in style. Which is great! It means I don’t have to buy all new things and I still love them. But it means it might be time for some fun splurges on cool and unique shoes to change up even just jeans and a tee. There’s just nothing exciting and fun in the under $200 range right now. Nothing that I don’t have something very similar already it seems.
I’m pretty set for my shoe basics and essentials.
And to me that includes great espadrilles (Castaner are my favorites), a good neutral sandal and lightweight canvas sneakers. I prefer a Converse. While I’m set on all of those, I did toss a few sandals that had seen better days from my closet that I had for many years. Proof that the shoe trends lately have been around for quite some time. The one thing I’d like to replace, are the neutral sandals that I live in. Mine are just old and ready to be replaced. They’re definitely on their last season. I am currently eying these braided sandals as something easy and affordable.
And for a good easy nude heeled sandal, I got these from Sarah Flint that are stunning. They’re not too dressy, not too casual. They’ll go with literally everything and might be a good replacement for my beloved block heel wrap sandals that have also seen better days. I’m noticing a trend in both my closet and my home, lots of things are starting to need replacing. They’re definitely a splurge and were kindly gifted by the brand. But they make a beautifully made shoe that is insanely comfortable and will last you years. You can read my review on their perfect pump here.
