Every year around my birthday and the misery of January weather, I crave a warm getaway. And I NEVER take one. I think it’s a combination of things. I spend November and December swamped with work and holidays so planning a trip for January is just an afterthought. Plus, I have major decision paralysis when it comes to booking a beach vacation specifically.
There’s something about the immense options of beaches and hotels to go to that overwhelms me. Plus, they all kind of look the same. Or the ones I really want to go to are insanely expensive (shocker). And since you spend so much time at the actual hotel on a beach trip, I feel like it has to be amazing. I worry I’ll be disappointed when I arrive and then be stuck there for days to deal with my poor decision. Whereas if I’m heading to Europe or a big city here in the US to explore, I am quicker to make decisions and feel like it’s much easier to organize.
So I’m doing two things. First, I’m taking myself on a solo trip to San Juan. I’ve been craving warm weather, a beach, poolside naps (and snacks) and lots of reading. And second, I’m putting in my calendar for October of this year to book a trip for January. I have bookmarked a handful of resorts that came highly recommended to me so I won’t get overwhelmed while browsing Hotels.com. I am determined to make this an annual thing whether it’s solo or with friends. And to be honest, I don’t really care, I just need warmth, a tan and relaxation. January in the blog world tends to be quite slow anyway, so it’s really the perfect time to get away.
What To Pack For A Warm Weather Weekend Getaway
For my trip to San Juan, I’m packing a carry-on. Wish me luck. But since I’ll be solo, I won’t be feeling the need to get super cute to go out to lunches or dinners or even explore. I plan on staying at my hotel the entire time. So here’s what I’m packing for a truly relaxing warm-weather getaway.
I’m keeping things simple this trip and packing the true warm-weather weekend getaway essentials. Swim, cover-ups, and easy outfits. I plan on packing this pretty dress from last summer that I love so much. Easy to throw on and go. And my favorite cover-ups from Amazon to J.Crew. I just got a few new ones that I’m loving. And for swimwear, I am obsessed with my L*Space Camellia bikini. I have it in a few colors and even thinking of adding a new one to the mix. It’s such a great fit and style. I prefer a balconette-style bikini or a triangle for maximum tanning exposure. Here’s what’s in my suitcase.
Swimwear, Cover-Ups and Pool Essentails
I’m also packing two books with me to read. The Husbands which I sort of started. I’m one chapter in and haven’t picked it up in weeks. And then People We Meet On Vacation. I read Beach Read last summer and loved it. Excited to read her next book.
