The last few times I’ve shot with Hannah has been over at Westside Provisions. It’s a really cool industrial-ish shopping and mixed-use area on the Westside of the city. It’s a great place for some amazing restaurants like Marcel, Little Trouble for a cocktail, shopping like Free People and treats like Jeni’s Ice Cream. One of the newest spots to open up here is Serena & Lily. Their store opens up into this stunning courtyard. Every time Hannah and I are there I always say “this is what I want my backyard to be like”.
I’ve been living that high rise life for over 10 years now. You can see my “backyard” here. It’s the best I could do in this cement high rise. But this little courtyard that usually has a bit of pretty furniture from the store and giant french doors that open up to the store (which looks like the kitchen area) has me wishing my home was just like it.

I tend to be a daydreamer. What will my future house be like, what will the backyard have? Always in my head. And whenever I’m in this space it feels exactly how I’d want a backyard to feel. It’s enclosed by boxwoods, has beautiful stone steps leading up to an ever-changing dining table setup. The french doors then really seal the deal for me. I also love the cornhole game set up out here as well. Basically, I’ll just take the whole space. My dream is to have a space that I can have friends over, allow my dog to lay down and sunbathe on and sit outside in the fall when the weather is absolute perfection. Is that so much to ask for?
