I’ve mentioned it here and there on the blog about a recent visit to Nordstrom for a personal styling session. I haven’t gone into full detail of the session and I think it’s time! Because this, this outfit, was the one that proved to me that taking the time to do a styling session is 100% worth it. While this session was originally part of a sponsorship with Nordstrom, that partnership was one that only went live over on Instagram. I shared a few Instagram posts, a Reel or two, and some Stories sharing the full experience. I loved it so much that I had to share the full experience here too. Mostly because this outfit is a personal favorite, and would not have ever come into my closet without that styling session.
Why I Now Love Nordstrom’s Personal Styling Services
Is A Nordstrom Personal Stylist Free?
Styling sessions at Nordstrom are 100% free. Stylists work off of commission on whatever you purchase, so it’s in their best interest to make sure you have a great experience. As someone who used to work at Nordstrom, we took making commissions very seriously. It is always a salesperson’s goal to make sure you leave happy with your items. Not just trying to sell you whatever to make a sale. Because guess what? If you return that item, it comes right out of their paycheck. So ensuring you truly love and will wear something before buying it, is super important. And in my experience, means a more honest sales experience.
What’s A Nordstrom Styling Service Like?
Start With A Phone Call
The process of a styling appointment is pretty standard, but this is how mine went. I started by doing a quick phone call with my stylist, Raven, a few days before heading into the store. I told her I was looking for some new pieces to spruce up my closet with. Definitely no denim; I’m good there. But I was looking for some new and exciting items that weren’t too dressy and fit my more casual style. But also pieces that can easily be dressed up and down if I need to. I also shared things I love, hate, colors I gravitate towards and so on. This allowed her to do some browsing over a few days to pull items for our appointment.
Head In Store To Try On Items
When I headed into my styling session and saw all these great pieces hanging in the fitting room, I was so excited to get to try pieces on. So many things I saw hanging I never would have personally picked for myself. Either way, I was down to try anything on. I wasn’t going to nix something on a hanger before trying it. Unless it was a big ruffle, obviously. Not a ruffle kind of gal. But overall, Raven really nailed everything for me. Not only were there brands I had been admiring from afar, but also brands I love and wear already and knew I’d be thrilled to try on.
Raven not only pulled the items, but she also put the outfits together. All the way down to the shoes and accessories. When shopping, it can be hard to get a full picture of the outfit without all the finishing details. By having everything ready to go with shoes, jewelry and so on, it allowed me to really try on the full looks and get a feel for them.
The best part of the session was just having someone there who wanted you to find great outfits. She provided me with her honest opinion, swapped out items as we went along for sizes or different colors to make things work. It was such an elevated shopping experience and one I thoroughly enjoyed. I also got my pants hemmed right then and there on the spot which is always a treat!
My Favorite Outfit From My Styling Session
The outfit that really blew me away was these two pieces paired together. I never would have grabbed this poop brown top. Ever. Not only for the print and color, but also the shape. It’s nothing like anything else in my closet. But as soon as I put it on I was so in love. It’s that perfect style that you can wear casually with some denim and a loafer or low heel. But if I really needed to could wear it dressed up for a meeting or an event. Paired with these brown coated kick crop jeans (that I’ve already worn here and loved) it’s the perfect look. Not only would I never have tried either of these pieces, but I never would have put them together. Who knew!
And that right there was the proof I needed that I may need to enlist the help of Nordstrom stylists to help me refresh my style every so often.
Let’s Talk About This Outfit!
This top is by Free People which actually surprises me. It doesn’t have Free People vibes at all to me. It also comes in a striped print, but the brown is my favorite. But it could use a little hook and eye so I’m going to get that added. Fashion tape does the trick though in the meantime. I even added on a chunky necklace. I haven’t bought costume jewelry in YEARS but this just adds a little weight to all my jewelry and I loved what it added to the neckline.
And these jeans are quickly becoming a go-to when I need to step outside my usual blue denim. They’re by Pistola and you can read my full review of the brand here. I opted to take the hem up about an inch because I have short legs and like my kick crops to hit at a certain spot. Nordstrom also offers complimentary simple hems so that’s a great perk.
And lastly, these shoes. Sarah Flint’s shoes are so beautifully made and incredibly comfortable. Yes, comfortable. These 100mm heels are COMFY, I swear! You can get $50 off your first order at Sarah Flint with my unique link here or use code SARAHFLINT-BAINDIGO at checkout.
