MY GO TO WORKOUT SONGS
MY FAVORITE WORKOUT MOVES
•
When I can’t get to my workout classes, there’s a few things I like to do at home that (mostly) don’t require any equipment. Add in weights as you please. I usually start with 30 minutes of walk/run on the treadmill.
Squats
Walking Lunges – Overhead weight is always a killer!
Tabata Sit Ups – mix in planks, Russian twists and V-ups
Push Ups
Rowing
Burpees
Kettle Bell Swings
Hip Raises – One legged ones make it even more challenging
Pistols

We’re more than half way through January and doing a little check in on your resolutions is a little scary if you ask me. I spent the first whole week of 2018 in bed sick. Plus with the cold weather, my dog Pork is refusing to go for her end of day, before bedtime walk, which means, waking up at 5 because she desperately has to go potty. This is creating one really terrible sleep schedule for me. I then stay up for an hour or two, watch TV, work a little, then go back to bed and end up sleeping in late (which is something I’ve NEVER done before). I’m sleeping through my MWF 10am Missfits class that I really enjoy going to. It’s been a struggle to say the least. So I’ve been trying to get on track on my own even if I miss my class. And even if I’m tired AF.
There’s a few tips to getting motivated and staying on the right path to maintaining good habits. First and foremost, I like to be a part of something I enjoy. My Missfits class is a favorite so I actually look forward to it. I also enjoy FlyWheel (spin class) and hot yoga at Highland Yoga so I’ve signed up for ClassPass this month (you can get $40 off by signing up with this link). I did it a while back when I was trying to find a new studio to join and ended up going back to CrossFit 404, but just doing their all girls class. It’s more bootcamp style and is less competitive and cult-y (#sorrynotsorry). Finding a class you actually enjoy makes a world of difference. But for some, that may not always be possible.
A few other ways to get motivated is to have some accountability through a network. Maybe get together with a few friends and start checking in every week on progress. Ask a buddy to join you at bootcamp so you have someone to drag you out of bed. I’m also seeing a LOT of people do the BBG on their phones, I may actually try it for those days I can’t get to my class and want some more guidance in my apartment gym.
I also feel like it can help to just up your wardrobe game. It’s been FOREVER since I updated my workout drawer, as in at least 4 years. A few things need to just be tossed at this point, but just adding a few new things to wear can help make getting ready early in the morning a little more exciting while you’re trying to develop a habit. Having great workout gear and also workout accessories helps big time. For hot yoga I use this yoga mat and towel. Over the holidays I picked up a few new Athleta items too as you see here in today’s post. I got these AirPods for Christmas and they’re a game changer at the gym. I feel like I’m dealing less with headphones and wires and more time focusing on my workout. It may seem trivial but it really makes workouts that much more enjoyable.
Now to fix my eating habits and get my butt in the gym more…Putting it out there into the universe so I get more motivated! What’s your favorite way to break a sweat?
