Yellow has always been a cheery and bright color I love to wear, especially in the warmer months. But lately, yellow has been having a real moment. From butter yellow, to pastel yellows, and even bright saturated hues, yellow is a great color to add to your wardrobe. I know some can find it a bit intimidating ot style if it isn’t a color you think works with your skin tone.
However, I think it’s actually one of the most versatile colors to style! When paired with the right colors, textures and accessories, it can work for so many outfits, and for every season. I’m sharing a round up of outfits you can recreate using the color yellow.
11 Yellow Outfit Ideas
Yellow is not only trending at the moment, but is also a bit of a classic. Different shades definitley have their moments from mustard yellow or marigold, to the current softer butter yellows. If this is a color you want to start styling, here are some yellow outfit ideas and color pairings to try.

What Colors Go With Yellow
Figuring out which color to pair with yellow can feel a bit intimidating. Here are some of my favorite pairings, from unexpected ones to more traditional.
Yellow And White
Simple and easy, yellow and white is an effortless color pairing you can wear for spring and summer. You can then add some color with your accessories with a red sandal, or soft blue bag.
Yellow And Denim Blue
My favorite and easiest combination is just to throw on my favorite jeans and anything yellow. Yellow cozy knit sweater, yellow tee, or a bold bright yellow graphic tee. Since blue and yellow work so well together, you can easily pair your favorite yellow pieces with denim. I also love a denim vest with a yellow dress or skirt.
Yellow And Black
A risky combination if you ask me. Black and yellow will almost always feel like you’re cosplaying a bumblebee. But if you choose pale yellows, this helps to soften the contrast. Or try charcoal instead of stark black.

Yellow And Brown
The warm tones of yellow and brown work so well together. And you can really wear lots of different variants of yellow with this great neutral. From soft butter yellows, to more neon brighter shades, brown is a great option. Brown is also an ideal alternative for black as the contrast is less harsh.
Yellow And Navy
Blue and yellow will always feel meant to be together. I love pairing navy blues with yellow. And while yes, dark wash jeans can feel like navy too, I really do like true navy pieces like a navy vest with butter yellow pants, or navy trousers with a yellow sweater. Navy and mustard yellow is also a favorite fall and winter color pairing I reach for often.
Yellow And Beige or Tan
Go neutral with yellow and beige or tans. This feels like a nod to a monochromatic look as soft yellows. I’ve done this with a soft yellow blazer with a beige tank and denim. A really good color pairing with the blue jeans.
Yellow And Grey
For fall and winter, a grey cozy knit or trousers pairs so nicely with yellow. You can go a bit brighter yellow here or soft pale yellow, any shade works!

Yellow And Burgundy or Purple
One of my all-time favorite color combinations is yellow with burgundy. The contrast works beautifully together and feels really nice and warm together. Burgundy is always a favorite color for fall and winter so this is a perfet opportunity to get some use out of those burgundy shoes, bags or sweaters and pair them with a pop of yellow.
Yellow And Leopard
I absolutely think leopard is an easy neutral to style. And it goes with truly any and every color in my book. Yellow (especially a bright yellow) is really fun with leopard. I think a pale yellow works as well, but it’s not as bold. If you want to make a statement, go bright and bold in your yellow choice.
Yellow And Pink
No matter if you go hot pink, or soft pink, I really love this pairing. It’s super feminine and bright for spring and summer.
Yellow And Green
When we use the color wheel theory, we can go analogous, which means the color next to yellow will work. And that includes green. A rich olive green or hunter green paired with yellow is also a great combination. Go softer in pastels for spring and summer, or rich hunter green and mustard for fall and winter.
How To Wear Yellow
Find A Shade That Works For Your Skin Tone
If the color yellow overwhelms you, or you thought this color would never work with your skin tone, think again! The good news is that some shades of yellow really do work on almost everyone. Butter yellow and marigold hit a sweet spot of warmth and softness that tends to flatter across the board. Where things get trickier are the extremes: very cool, pale lemons and bright neons require a bit more thought to pull off.
I’ve found that butter yellow feels a lot like a neutral, too. And unless you’re wearing head to toe yellow, or a ton of yellow up by your face, you can really make this color work for you any which way.
Use The Color Wheel Method To Find Color Combinations
I love using the color wheel theory for finding color combinations. The idea is you find your color (yellow) on the wheel first. The colors directly on the left and right of the color, are considered analogous. These usually feel really cohesive with similar undertones. Or you can go directly across the wheel, to find the complementary color. I find this creates the most interesting outfits. Ones with contrast and interest. So across from yellow are your purples and blues, which is why blue and yellow is such a fantastic pairing.
